I was bored and had a lot of free time. I know it’s not exactly the most profound of answers, but it’s the truth.
If I stay away from a project for too long, I’ll honestly start to obsess about it. Of course, I obsess over it when I am working on it, too. Huh. I guess the overall answer is “compulsion.”
I just finished the main story arc for Washed Hands, a detective-ish novel about a woman who breaks people up for a living is framed for murder. I have to write an epilogue and a prologue, but that’s my second entry for 2014. After that there’s Project Northwoods’s sequel, which is apparently something that someone wants me to write.
I’m not complaining about that.
4. What’s your writing process, schedule, or routine?
Um… I write when I’m creatively compelled to. I really wish I had more consistency, but it’s really waiting to be inspired. I do write predominantly on Sunday mornings, though. But that’s because I update my blog every Monday. And I can’t disappoint my fan.
That’s a tough one. But I guess the answer I usually end up falling back on is Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter series. She’s quirky and fun. Although I guess she’s not exactly the most stable or deep of characters, there’s just something immensely charming about someone with only one foot in reality that isn’t immediately made into a serial killer.
The person that first said “write what you know” is a liar and a charlatan. The people that repeat it are well-intentioned, but missing a far more valuable point – write what you love.

“The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naive and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who likes his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair.” H.L. Mencken
Nelson Mandella
Explain…
Although I love a good fictional action-fest, the man was a powerful source for peace when surrounded by what appeared to be insurmountable odds and institutional hate.
The willfully ignorant.
No one grows unreasonably attached to inanimate objects quite like I do.

11. Favorite comfort food?
When I get stressed, I don’t eat. So I guess my favorite comfort food is forgetting that I need to eat. Yes, I know it’s bad for me. No, I don’t care.
Red Dwarf. But between the two, I would have to go with Star Trek, particularly The Next Generation.

13. Sunrises or Sunsets?
I feel like this is a trick question. What is it you want from me? Is this one of those things that will secretly gauge my personality? Like if I say sunset everyone will assume I’m a cynic and mock me? Or if I say sunrise everyone will mock my sentimentalism? Well, I’m not falling for it, you hear me!?
But in all seriousness, I have to drive to work as the sun rises and from work as it sets. I really don’t appreciate either version of our celestial neighbor trying to give me free laser eye surgery every damn day.
