 1. What inspired you to write your first book?

My younger brothers and sister would ask me to tell them stories when we were younger. My first book evolved out of those stories, initially, and then took on a life of its own as I breathed more of myself into it.

2. Writing can be a difficult job, what inspires you to keep going?

On the day to day scale, my friends and family often push me to get back to work or ask me what’s going to happen to their favorite character and that keeps me moving forward. Certain songs also inspire me to keep going. My current favorite is “Hall of Fame” by The Script featuring will.i.am.

 3. What are you working on now? What’s next?Changeling_Eyes_Cover_1024x1024.jpg v=1372602799

I’m working on the sequel to Changeling Eyes and trying to figure out if I want to end that story as a two-book set or a trilogy.

 4. What’s your writing process, schedule, or routine?

I write best when no one is around and I really like to write in front of a window of a second floor room, looking out on trees. Like a treehouse. Once I get started, I can go for hours. But I’ll often procrastinate to avoid a blank page, like the first page of a new chapter. I have to make sure no TV or video games are anywhere near my writing station, or I’ll get distracted. And I have to hide from my family, because they always want to talk to me whenever I’m writing. It’s like some sort of magnet.

I also do very well writing through the night when everyone else is asleep.

5. Who is your favorite book character of all time? Why? lotr

I’m going to go with Frodo from the Lord of the Rings (book version, not movie). He was a self-sacrificing, decent, noble and loving person. When he chose to leave his friends and go to Mordor alone, he knew he was going to die. He chose to do the right and necessary thing anyway. He was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice and he survived with scars, both physical and emotional, that would never heal.

 6. What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Grow a thick skin. You’re going to get a lot of rejections, critiques, reviews and editing suggestions and you won’t get anywhere if you fall to pieces over them.

9. What is your biggest pet peeve?

People who think Fantasy and Science Fiction are interchangeable adjectives. They’re different! Very very different!

I’m a night owl, so, sunsets. I’ve seen a couple sunrises though … strange, misty things.
