One of the most innocently rewarding things you can do in life is know your personality type. Research has shown that compatibility in relationships, work, and hobbies can be determined by looking at certain variables in your personality. The Myers-Briggs test is one of the most well-respected models.

It is based on the work of Carl Jung and centered around the four functions of sensation, intuition, feeling and thinking.  It yields 16 possible personality types based on NF or valuing types, NT or visioning types, SF or relating types, and ST or directing types.

Where can you take the test?

There are literally thousands of people certified to administer the test.  However, don’t panic.  You don’t have to go to a certified test administrator.  There are many free online versions of the test.  These tests are streamlined and abbreviated, but if you answer the questions honestly, you should get an accurate representation of your personality type.  I like this free version available at HumanMetrics.

What on earth does this have to do with Harry Potter?

Glad you asked!  If you are even the slightest Harry Potter fan, you’ve seen at least three movies.  Three is enough to have developed a favorite character and get a feel for what the characters are like.  This awesome diagram, shows the Myers-Briggs personality types of some of the main characters in the series:

Is it accurate?

You tell me!  Time after time when I’ve taken a Harry Potter quiz, I get sorted into the Ravenclaw House.  My Myers-Briggs personality type is  INFP.  If you look at the chart above, the INFP is Luna Lovegood.  What house is Luna in? You guessed it….Ravenclaw!  Now…everyone might not get the uncanny results that I did.  But take the test…you could learn a thing or two about yourself.  Use that information to evaluate things that are working in your life, as well as the things that are not.  You never know what good can come from it.
