1. What inspired you to write your first book?9781620150641

The characters.  They were just bouncing around in my head, yelling, “Play with me, bitch!” So, I did 🙂

2. Writing can be a difficult job, what inspires you to keep going?

Again, the characters.  I love to write, so it’s no hardship when my peeps start yammering at me to take them on a journey.  It’s only when they veer off the beaten path and I have reign them in that things start to get dicey.

3. What are you working on now? What’s next?newideas

Right now, I’m working on a bunch of things.  A collaboration with a writer pal of mine as well a couple of SNIs (shiny new ideas) that keep cropping up in my head.  Lots of balls bouncing around!

4. What’s your writing process, schedule, or routine?

I try to write or do writing related things a little every day.  I’m an outliner, so I can spend days just futzing with my outlines

5. Who is your favorite book character of all time? Why?jane-austen-pride-and-prejudice-book

Elizabeth Bennett.  Smart and sassy.  She doesn’t take crap from anyone and even when she realizes her feelings for Mr. Darcy, she doesn’t let that love cloud her judgment.  Family comes first for her.  Always.

6. What advice would give to aspiring writers?

Read!  In order to write, you must first read.  If you don’t enjoy reading, how can you write something that others will love?

8. Who would you most like to have a cup of coffee with? (Dead or alive)

Explain…

Jane Austen…although it’d probably be tea with her, huh?  I’d love to get inside her mind and find out how she put together a story.  Plus, she had to be one hellacious wildcat back in the day, to write such timeless stories.

9. What is your biggest pet peeve?

When I tell people I write YA (at their blank expressions, I elaborate with “teen”) and they ask, “When are you going to write a real book?”  Really?  Just because it’s not for adults doesn’t make it any less real.  Teens are people, too.  REAL ones.

10. Tell us something quirky about you.

I’m terrified of bridges, especially suspension bridges.  I’d rather drive fifty miles out of my way than drive over a bridge…but I have no problem with tunnels.  Go figure

11. Favorite comfort food?

Peanut Butter.  A tablespoon of peanut butter soothes all ailments.

12. Star Wars or Star Trek?star-wars-the-original-trilogy-dvd-rt2rvkdt

Star Wars.  The original trilogy.  I mean the prequels were okay.  I guess I’m just a purist.

Sunsets.
