1. What inspired your latest book or book series?
The Fifth Column was written in the wake of a film project called Violent John that I wrote, directed, and produced. You can still find it on Youtube if you feel like punishing yourself. I was disappointed in the final result and so I immediately set to work on a script that would translate well to a very small budget, with very few actors, but that would still look great to audiences. In writing it I realized there was a lot that could expound upon and so the project just morphed into a novel. I think novelizing it did far better justice to the story and characters than my attempt at another film would have.

2. Who is your favorite book character of all time? Why?
fahrenheit-451-book-cover1This question could be an entire interview… wow. There are so many that I love and all for different reasons. Even though they are fictional I feel that for me to choose just one would insult all of the others. I’ll do my best. My safe choice is Guy Montag from Fahrenheit 451. He starts the novel as a cog in a terrible machine, gets that itch that its terrible, and then decides to scratch that itch, even though it destroys his entire world. I like any character that seeks redemption.

5. Who would you most like to have a cup of coffee with? (Dead or alive) Explain…
A top literary agent. Give me fifteen minutes of face time with them and my book would be in every book store in the country. Oh and I hate query letters. Outside of that, probably David Lee Roth.

6. What is your biggest pet peeve?
People that say sorry all of the time but continue doing the things they are sorry about. Either change or stop being sorry about the way you are.

7. Tell us something quirky about you.
I involuntarily and completely without realizing tuck my thumbs into my hands and make a fist when I watch movies. My wife never fails to notice when I’m doing it. Her theory is that my parents probably made me do this to keep me from sucking my thumbs but I have no memory of that. She’s probably right.

8. Favorite comfort food?
Kraft brand macaroni and cheese. Even if I become a billionaire I will still send the butler out for Kraft brand macaroni and cheese. You’ve got to make it without milk too. Just lots of butter and you get creamy, cheesy, paradise.

Considering I actually have a Star Wars tattoo… I’d say Star Wars. I’ve been a huge super fan since my earliest memories. I can recite the film, have a huge collection of Star Wars memorabilia… I’m the full monty of Star Wars nerds.
